A Veteran Struggling for Country

When injustice grows in leaps and bounds, when a country is taking its last breath, there will be a man who saves it from all the filthy problems. His body may not be strong but he walks with a will power stronger than steel. He helps his country for overcoming all the thresholds. If we used these words every Indian will remember the father of nation M.K.Gandhi but coming to the present situation there is another man who is struggling hard to clean the sewage in politics to make this system clean. He is a follower of M.K.Gandhi, common protestor from Ram Lila Maidan Anna Hazare.

When we heard about corruption, when we heard about black money or when we heard about Jan lokpal bill obviously a name will be uttered as a combination to them "ANNA Hazare". Who is this Anna Hazare? What are his reforms? What is he dreaming about future India? Let us have a look on each of these issues today.

Who is he?

Kisan Baburao Hazare was born on 15th June 1937 in Bhingar near Ahmednagar. His father was a petty officer in pharmacy who struggled to support his family financially. His family is having a small amount of land in the village of Ralegan Siddhi. In order to support family financially Hazare's father shifted it to that village. Hazare's study was supported by a relative of him who took him to Mumbai as there is no primary school in Ralegan Siddhi. Hazare studied up to standard seventh grade where his sibling never attended school. Then Hazare started selling flowers in Dadar railway station eventually he developed his business in such a way that he maintained two flower shops in the city. In that time he indulged in vigilantism to protect the poor people from the group of assassins maintained by landlords who are used to make those poor people vacate their homes. Later in 1962 during the Indo-Chinese war Indian army announced an emergency recruitment measure. Through that recruitment Hazare was drafted as Army personnel. He took an active participation in the Indo-Pak war of 1965. This is how he served our country as an army man.

What are his reforms?

Hazare involved in many reforms including the agricultural reforms and social reforms. After his army career on his return to Ralegan Siddhi he noticed it agriculturally backward. At that time that village is referred to as "One of the villages of India plagued by acute poverty, deprivation and hopelessness." Hazare used some part of his gratuity as a financial support for his village. He made some changes in reuse of water and many cultivation processes and named these measures as Shramadan. Then after that by gathering the youth Hazare started voluntary prohibition of alcohol. In this some of the drunken villagers are tied to tree and were tortured. Hazare supported this deed as "Giving a bitter medicine to a disease". Hazare also struggled a lot for prohibition of sale of tobacco and its products such as beedi, cigarettes etc. Hazare started a grain bank at a temple which helped farmers in their crop failures. Farmers can borrow grains from grain bank when they need and return those grains. In addition to these reforms he was also involved in removal of untouchability, collective marriages etc.

Hazare's Dream India

In 1991 Hazare started "Brastachar virodhi Jan andolan" the people's movement against corruption Ralegan Siddhi through which he fought against corruption and collusion among the forest officials and timber merchants. He fought against corruption in India by raising his voice on the collusions of different officials in different fields. He supported the Jan lokpal bill also referred to as citizen's Ombudsman Bill which is an anti corruption bill drawn and drafted by a few self appointed civil society activists. This bill helps the system to eradicate corruption from the roots. He was involved in Hunger strikes at Ram Lila Maidan or Ram Lila Grounds supporting Jan Lokpal Bill. He is a veteran fighting for a better society. He is an Indian showing his true patriotism. Let us hope Anna Hazare's efforts bring Jan Lokpal bill which brings charisma to India.

Controversies

• Some people say that Hazare has some links with RSS (Rashtiya Swayam Sevak).

• Some people are pointing that Hazare was given glucose at the time of fast at Ram Lila Grounds.

• He has an accusation of being anti dalit and anti democratic and many more.

Whatever it may be a veteran is striving hard for bringing improvement to the society. Let us congratulate and support him for Jan Lokpal Bill and a better India.
