If you don't vote, does it matter?
Under our form of government, "we the people" have a voice in what happens in our country. Not just a voice, but the only voice that counts. The government works for us. The question is: do we still have that voice?
Perhaps not... perhaps you've been told your voice doesn't matter anymore so you feel the voting process is unimportant; why bother?
If you don't vote, then who is voting?
The last four years have brought major change to our county. "We the people" saw government debt rising astronomically. It stood out like stupidity while many Americans were losing their homes, jobs and investments. We were tightening our belts and getting our personal economics in order while government was borrowing and spending trillions of dollars in some vain attempt to turn around the economy. (Where did the trillions go? They certainly did not go into our economy. We have an obligation to know where this money went. Representatives who refuse to take action to audit the Federal Reserve, frankly, should be voted out.)
In 2010, those representing us in government began to hear from "we the people" as never before. Those elected officials who acted irresponsibly (and were up for reelection), were sent home and replaced with representatives from "outside the system". More and more citizens took notice of what our representatives were doing (or not doing), held them accountable or voted them out. Both parties were affected by this cleansing process which has only just begun.
The Republican Party is beginning to pay some attention, though there is still "business as usual" occurring with the older "established" politicians. They will be replaced, because people who care about the basic tenets of this country are realizing these people have gone astray.
Now, more than ever, your vote does count. If you're not voting, someone else is, and they are having their say. Activists who would relegate our Constitution to the waste bin are not sitting back and waiting. They have much to lose if President Obama is not reelected.
Responsible government only follows responsible voting. Responsible voting requires a basic grasp of government. If you need more education get it.
Let's make government do its job, which is to protect the rights and freedoms of all citizens, which is the only way to open the door of opportunity for all.
So who is voting? You are, of Course! Vote! You can make a difference.
